Check
out these basic "do's and don'ts"
when it comes to your baby's teeth
Do get in the routine of
cleaning your baby's gums even before he grows
his primary tooth.
Do wrap clean gauze around
your finger and gently wipe the gum tissue
clean.
Do try brushing as a family
to establish the habit.
Do attempt different brushing
positions until you find one that suits both
of you.
Do take your baby to the
dentist after your baby's first birthday.
Don't reach for the toothpaste. It's
not necessary at this point.
Don't try cleaning
gums if baby is restless or tired.
Don't overuse toothpaste.
A small amount equal to the size of a match
head is sufficient. Persuade your child not
to swallow if possible. Stick to fluoride
free toothpaste until your kid knows how to
spit out.
Don't forget to
introduce flossing. It should be initiated
when both of you are comfortable. This can
take a lot more time than simple brushing.
Don't stick with a dentist you don't
like. Baby's first visit to the dentist is
the start of many such visits. It is important
to be comfortable.
