Pea Puree

Fresh or frozen green peas ½ cup

1. Steam green pea until tender or for about 5-8 minutes. Else boil them in a pan with little water added. Drain and allow to cool.

2. Using a hand blender make a smooth puree. Press the puree with a spoon through a sieve to remove pea skins. Serve with rice cereal or on its own.

3. To vary the taste add chopped herbs such as parsley, chives or stir in fresh yogurt.

* Since fresh peas are not easily available your next best bet will have to be frozen peas. Frozen peas are readily available and better than the canned versions because of the lower sodium content and also in terms of color and taste. Also it is best to avoid processed peas for now owing to the salt and sugar content. Petit-pois are the smaller version of the regular garden peas and nutritionally (contain vitamins such as A, B1 and C and minerals such as iron) suitable for babies.
