Now that your child has shown signs of readiness, timing is the next thing to consider before you jump into this bandwagon with your kid. Remember, you must be ready too! Okay, so you are ready as ever to embark on the diaper-free mission - Make sure they do not coincide with major changes such as a house move, joining a new playgroup, going on a vacation or even having a new baby.

Postpone toilet training until you have settled back to routine if there are big changes in the horizon. Ensure both you and your child are doing well in health, your child is not going thru a negative phase and there are no visitors or upsets to the daily routine.

Some things to consider when it is a good time to try potty training:

1) Family life is quiet and predictable.

2) When you as the trainer are able to devote as much time and attention to the task.

3) Maintain a diary to assess and keep track of progress and failure.

4) Do it while the older kid(s) are away at school or the younger sibling is gainfully occupied. While age cannot be exactly planned you can certainly do some planning with regards to the weeks (a few quiet weeks to achieve bulk of the training). Use 2-3 weeks to establish the basics in your child and help wherever you can. Once your child is off to a good start, the rest of the time can be spent on reinforcing what he has learned and fine-tuning his skills until he is fully trained.
