Itching is an annoying problem especially if you are itching in weird areas like the soles and the palms with no obvious rash or lesion appearing. Sometimes when there is no other accompanying problem like fever, or secondary rash then a simple routine of bathing daily in lukewarm water followed by skin massage with a lanolin based lotion and/or application of oily calamine lotion (ordinary calamine aggravates the condition) to control the itch will help you manage this discomfort through your pregnancy. Extreme dryness of skin also known as xerosis can be managed at home with bathes and lotions. Though itching is quite common with pregnant women, the underlying problem should be checked to rule out more serious complications such as pruritus gravidarum or liver ailments such as cholestatis. When the itching sensation cannot be managed with a routine of maintaining a well hydrated, moisturized skin, make an appointment with your doctor to rule out more serious possibilities.
