Lentil Baby Food Recipes for Babies 8 Months Up

Lentils or legumes or dried beans are a high source of protein and fiber and ideally can be introduced from 8 months onwards. They are known to be gassy foods but because of their low rep as allergy-causing foods, most parents feel comfortable introducing lentils as early as 6 months. Check with your pediatrician if in doubt. As with all lentils pre-soaking the night before will cut back on cooking time so don't forget this important step. First lentils are the red and yellow split lentils as these can be prepared quickly.

One way to minimize gassiness when cooking lentils
Some beans require pre-soaking e.g. chickpeas, adzuki beans etc Soak beans for at least 8 hours or overnight after sorting. Beans will cook faster and more evenly. Discard the water. Add fresh water along with a piece of ginger or grated ginger and allow lentils to boil in an open pot for about 20 minutes. Simmer the beans covered until soft. Proceed with the rest of the recipe accordingly.
