There are bound to be many fears: cesarean, complicated birth, episiotomy, breech baby etc! The one that tops the list is fear of the pain caused by childbirth. The most important thing to remember is that labor pain is productive pain since the end result is your beautiful baby. The key to managing this fear is to read, watch and educate yourself as much as you can on something you have no idea about and gain some familiar ground. Once the unknown becomes familiar the fear does lessen. Talk to family and friends and experts and keep yourself open to possibilities. Remind yourself that women have been having babies for the longest time and with medical being so advanced today it cannot be all that bad. Finally find what works for you. With some women they work better with tuning into the problem (i.e. focusing on the source) while with others they work better with being distracted by external activities and yet with some others a mixture of both does the trick. Discover the comfort measures available, analyze yourself and apply what will best work for you.
