What is a trial labor and why is it done?

When a woman has had problems with her previous pregnancy or undergone a C-section, a trial labor will be arranged to allow her to be in labor long enough to assess if she can a vaginal delivery this time round. The length of labor will depend on your doctor and how the labor is progressing. During this phase the pregnant lady will be closely monitored i.e. the cervix will be checked for progress and baby's progress down the pelvis as well as baby's heartbeat will also be closely watched. In the meantime medical assistance for cesarean will be on standby should the need arise.
