What is formula milk?


There are many brands of formula milk on the market today. By tradition infant formula milk is based on cow's milk extract, and cow's milk is very different in composition from human milk. But the carbohydrates, fats and proteins have been modified and fortified with vitamins and minerals such as folic, zinc and iron to resemble breast milk closely. Formula milk is constantly being improved in terms of nutrition and packaging to contain the correct balance of EFAs (DHA and ARA), butterfat and other nutrients e.g. iron. It is very important to follow the specifications on formula preparation in order to derive the correct nutritional balance. It is also important to recognize if a particular brand is not suited to your baby.
